Application, Request, Pen, Coolie, Write, Writing Tool

If you’re starting to get itchy feet and you’re thinking of leaving your job, it’s important to take a step back and plan your exit properly. Simply walking away from your job is usually not an option and will not help you to find a new job – here’s our top tips for planning your next career move.

Why are you looking for a new job? There can be many reasons why you might be looking for a new job, from not enjoying the work itself to wanting more money. Make sure you’re clear on your reasons for looking for something new before starting your search.

Update your CV. Don’t just add your last job to a years old CV – tailor your application to each role you’re interested in an list your core skills and experiences giving examples and evidence as you go.

Make sure you’re committed. A limited search for a new job every now and then won’t get you very far – make sure you regularly check the job boards and reach out to refresh communication with contacts in key roles and companies. Networking is a vital part of your job search!

Get yourself noticed – properly. If your current employer is not aware you’re looking, consider carefully how to reach out to key contacts and how you promote your candidacy. If you need to meet contacts or attend interviews in working hours, make sure you take leave as appropriate.
